The convenience of digital banking services has made various financial activities more convenient. However, despite this convenience, the public also needs to be increasingly vigilant against various fraudulent methods that exploit technology. One of the most common methods is social engineering.
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) explains that social engineering is a form of fraud that utilizes psychological manipulation to obtain victims' personal information and banking data. Perpetrators typically create situations that make victims panic, rush, or become curious, leading them to unknowingly provide confidential information.
To avoid becoming a victim, be aware of the following common social engineering methods.
Common Social Engineering Methods
1. Sending APK Files
The perpetrator sends files in .APK format via WhatsApp or other messaging apps with catchy names, such as Digital Invitation, Package Photo, or Electronic Traffic Ticket. If these files are downloaded and installed, the device can be infected with malware that risks stealing personal data and information used to access banking services.
2. Fake Call Center or Social Media Accounts
The perpetrator creates an account that looks like an official bank account and then contacts customers through the comments section or private messages. The victim is then directed to a conversation via WhatsApp or other media and asked to provide personal data under the pretext of verification or problem resolution.
3. Phishing Links Disguised as Prizes or Fund Transfers
The perpetrator sends a message informing the victim that they have won a prize, a lottery, or received a fund transfer. The victim is then asked to open a specific link to verify their data. In reality, the link is a fake website designed to steal personal information and banking data.
To ensure transaction security, Bank INA will never request the following information via phone, SMS, WhatsApp, email, or social media:

How to Avoid Social Engineering

Perpetrators often create pressure situations to force victims to make a decision. Before following any instructions, be sure to check the information first.
