Beware of the Dangers and Methods of Buying and Selling Online Gambling Accounts

One factor contributing to the growth of online gambling is the trading of bank accounts. Therefore, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) urges the public not to buy or sell accounts and not to engage in illegal financial transactions. This was conveyed by Dian Ediana Rae, Chief Executive of Banking Supervision at the OJK Banking Forum in Jakarta.

Negative impacts on online gambling perpetrators:

  • Addiction
  • Declining economic performance
  • Impaired mental health
  • Increased crime
  • Data theft
  • Legal problems

Sanctions for online gambling perpetrators and bank account sellers:

  • Law No. 7 of 1974 concerning the regulation of gambling (Gambling is not a violation but a crime).
  • Article 303 of the Criminal Code (Anyone who offers or provides an opportunity to participate in gambling is subject to imprisonment of 4-10 years and/or a fine of Rp 10-25 million).
  • Law No. Article 27, paragraph 2, of Law No. 11 of 2008 on the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) stipulates that anyone who intentionally distributes, transmits, or creates electronic information containing gambling content is subject to a maximum prison sentence of 6 years and/or a maximum fine of IDR 1 billion.

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) will impose severe sanctions on anyone involved in fostering illegal gambling practices. The perpetrator's name will be blacklisted or blacklisted on the Financial Information Services System (SLIK). This means the perpetrator will be unable to open another bank account in Indonesia. Therefore, be wary of the practice of buying and selling accounts used to facilitate illegal gambling.
